Supporting graduate vets every step of the way

Support is important to any vet, especially during their first year in practice. We designed our Graduate Academy with this in mind.

Members of our Graduate Academy will have access to a range of CPD programmes, the support of a clinical coach in practice and various networking opportunities with their peers.

We have now closed applications for the graduate academy this year and will be opening applications soon for our next intake!

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to work out of hours straight away?

No. If your practice provides their own out-of-hours care, you’ll be eased into it by your clinical coach. You won’t be placed on the OOH rota alone until your clinical coach signs you off to be able to do so.

Can I work in a mixed practice or is it small animal only?

Absolutely! Many of our graduates do this. You’ll also be able to take large animal CPD sessions, and even our Farm Only programme, which we launched this year.

Where will I be working?

The choice is yours. Our group spans across 10 European countries, so there are plenty of options. In your application, you can apply for one specific practice or a number of practices in your preferred area. We’ll discuss the available vacancies with you and contact the relevant practices to arrange an interview.

Can I transfer to a different practice while I'm with the academy?

Yes. We have a process in place for internal transfers.

What CPD is included with the programme?

Graduates usually spend 12 days a year attending our CPD programmes, which include a variety of wet lab sessions, practical workshops and seminars on a range of topics.

I qualified outside of the Republic of Ireland and the UK. Can I still apply?

Absolutely! We are proud to welcome applicants from overseas, whether in Europe or further afield. So long as you’re eligible to register with the VCI, we look forward to hearing from you. We can also support you with visa sponsorship.

Still at university?

If you’re studying to be a vet, we offer EMS placements at a variety of different practices across the UK.
