Frequently asked questions

  • Absolutely, many of our graduates do this and benefit from the structured introduction to your career that our programme offers.

  • The choice is yours. We have a wide range of practices across Ireland, both in cities and rural locations. In your application you can apply for one specific practice or several practices in your preferred area. We’ll discuss the available vacancies with you and contact the relevant practices to arrange an interview.

  • Yes! We have a process in place for internal transfers so if you decide you want to try somewhere else at any point, there’s flexibility and support to do so.

  • Graduates will attend numerous in person days including a variety of wet lab sessions, practical workshops and seminars, along with a scheduled programme of on-line sessions.

  • Yes, of course! To be employed as a vet in Ireland you must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (see www.vci.ie) and you must be authorised to work in Ireland. (EU, EEA and UK nationals can automatically live and work in Ireland, all others persons must have a valid work permit.)

Still at university?

If you are in your final year in veterinary medicine, where that course is registerable with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI), and (if the course is not provided wholly in the English language) have passed the English language proficiency tests required by the VCI for registration, you are welcome to apply to the Graduate Internship Programme.
