Southview Vets, established in 2003, is Irelands leading Small Animal Reproduction specialists. We have a huge client base from all corners of Ireland, Northern Ireland and as far away as Australia that value our expertise in ethical and evidence-based small animal reproduction.

We are extremely passionate about responsible breeding with the health and wellbeing of animals leading the research and services we provide. We offer a range of specialized services in pre-breeding health assessments and canine reproduction including:

  • Cardiology screening
  • Hip and Elbow scoring – BVA, Pen-Hipp, and SV HD/ED Health Scheme
  • Ultrasound
  • Female fertility assessments
  • Male fertility assessments
  • A range of genetic screening tests
  • Bacterial Cultures and other laboratory testing
  • Progesterone blood tests
  • Collection and storage of semen in cryovials
  • Insemination – fresh, chilled or frozen
    • We are the only practice in Ireland that offers the option of Transcervical insemination using a guided scope
  • Import & export of semen worldwide
  • Obstetrics

We are proud of our high-quality services that ensure a healthy breeding regime to produce the next generation of healthy puppies. As well as our specialized reproduction team Southview Vets also offer a range of referral and first opinion services including Orthopaedic, Cardiology, Ultrasound, Laparoscopy, Canine Health Schemes, extensive in-house laboratory, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

Here at Southview we have a dedicated team of 22 professionals. We encourage everyone on our team, from receptionists to veterinary surgeons, to follow their passions and develop professionally with our fully funded certificates funding. Currently we have certificate holders in Small Animal Surgery, Cardiology, Ultrasound and Dairy Herd Health.

The Role

This is a unique job opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to become highly specialised and move their career to the next level. Training and support are provided for this position.

This is a full time, permanent position of 39 hours/5 days per week. The weekday shifts are 8:30am to 5:30pm and the 1 in 3 shared weekend shifts are typically 8am to 4pm (when required).

The duties and responsibilities with this role include processing blood and swab samples in our in-house laboratory, assessing vaginal swabs for ovulation staging, auditing storage tanks. You will be taught how to perform the process of freezing semen to a high quality, how to thaw pellets and straws of semen correctly, assisting with insemination techniques. Arranging import and export of semen (including administrative duties such as licensing, certificates and arranging couriers), preparing breeding certificates, triaging emails and responding to clients' queries.

This is a fast-paced position with time sensitive duties due to the nature of the business. It is a role that would keep you on your toes and bring a new level of expertise to your career.

Salary is up to €40,560 depending on experience plus attractive benefits (listed below).

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Veterinary Nurse with a strong interest in Canine Reproduction. You must be registered or eligible to register with the Veterinary Council of Ireland. Any experience in reproduction is favourable but not essential for the role. Full training will be provided for this role.

You must demonstrate excellent administration and communicative skills.
